PATRONS OF THE PRADO CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF FUNDRAISING TO BENEFIT 10 BALBOA PARK ARTS AND CULTURE ORGANIZATIONS

(Balboa Park, San Diego, CA) - On Tuesday, April 5th, 2022, Patrons of the Prado members and their guests gathered at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park to celebrate the Patrons of the Prado 25th Anniversary. The event, chaired by Judy Burer, honored the Patrons Founders Barbara McColl and Joyce Glazer, (in attendance), Kathleen Buoymaster, and the late Gloria Wallace.

The idea was conceived by Joyce Glazer and Kathleen Buoymaster while attending the New Year’s Eve Met Gala in New York. They asked, why can’t we do something similar in our beloved San Diego? The organization was further crystallized at a La Valencia luncheon with Joyce, Kathleen, Barbara McColl and the late Gloria Wallace. Patrons of the Prado further evolved to a 501(c)3 on April 7, 1997.  A 212 slide power point loop covering each year of Patrons 25 year history ran through the evening and is available for purchase as a fundraiser. Patrons of the Prado is committed to raising funds to benefit ten arts, science and cultural centers on the Prado in Balboa Park, and for programs that provide educational access for San Diego schoolchildren to the world-class treasures of Balboa Park, inspiring cultural fluency for future generations. Patrons of the Prado have contributed over $4.97 million to their 10 Balboa Park Beneficiaries.

Patrons President Julie Cowan Novak introduced Jade Frazier, representing the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation,  2022 Corporate ICON Award Honoree. They will be presented ICON Awards on July 9, 2022 in addition to honorees Dorothea Laub and Darlene Shiley at the Annual Masterpiece Prado Event “Under the Desert Sun" to be held at the Historic Spreckels Organ Pavilion.

The Prado provides a world-class cultural and educational experience for the millions of locals and visitors from around the world who frequent Balboa Park each year.  There is no better way to make an impact for the Arts/Culture in the Park than by supporting Patrons of the Prado and our annual fundraising event – Masterpiece 2022 - Under the Desert Sun. This year’s event will offer a nod to the chic nightlife of 1960’s Palm Springs.
