Coronado Film Fest - Sky Pilot

On Tuesday evening, March 8th, 2022, Gary Powers, Jr. joined with the Coronado Film Festival and the Coronado Historical Association to present the movie, Bridge of Spies, depicting the trade of U2 pilot Gary Powers, shot down in 1963 aboard a United States U2 spy plane high over Russian territory with a Russian spy held by the United States..

Speaking with his son at the presentation, who provided insight into the details of what truly took place, which he has outlined in several of his informative and best selling novels allowed attendees a personal insight into the tragic events that sent his father into a Soviet prison for two years. Both his depiction of what truly happened that fateful day and his recounting of the letters from prison that were written by his father provides a descriptive account of what truly happened. The movie, starring Tom Hanks, and directed by Steven Spielberg shown at last night's gathering is a thriller unto itself.

The Coronado Film Festival with its many yearly events offers the San Diego community a conduit into a wealth of intriguing films and welcomes the community to join in with their many festive and informative activities as does the Coronado Historical Association.
