San Diego Film Festival

The San Diego International Film Festival is our region’s premier film event and one of the leading stops on the independent festival circuit. The festival offers a totally unique film experience including world premieres, never before seen studio releases, the best in independent filmmaking and a full schedule of glamorous parties and intimate events with filmmakers.

This year, thousands of film lovers joined us at several great locations including downtown’s Balboa Theatre (Opening Night film premiere), at Regal Cinemas UA Horton Plaza, ArcLight Cinemas La Jolla, Music Box and at our Festival HQ at the beautiful Pendry San Diego.

Receiving thousands of film submissions from independent filmmakers spanning from around the globe, screeners narrow that field with a detailed film selection process to ensure that the 120+ films selected are the very best independent features, documentaries, and short films in the world.

Attendees have the opportunity to enjoy these films before they are released to the general public. After each screening, filmmakers discuss their creative process, providing an inside look at how their films were made.

Throughout the Film Festival, those in attendance have the opportunity to hear from filmmakers, actors, directors and deal makers to learn the backstory on why a film was produced, hear behind-the-scenes antics of the cast, or understand the struggles of getting distribution deals.
