San Diego Film Festival 2026

Hollywood glamour, extraordinary storytelling, and international cinematic artistry converged along San Diego's spectacular coastline as the San Diego International Film Festival celebrated its 25th anniversary, October 13–18. The milestone celebration brought together acclaimed actors, distinguished filmmakers, industry professionals, and cinema enthusiasts for six days of premieres, red-carpet festivities, and compelling films from around the world. Featuring 90 films representing 22 countries, the festival reaffirmed its reputation as one of Southern California's premier cultural celebrations, showcasing the extraordinary power of cinema to entertain, inspire, and connect audiences.

Among the week's most anticipated highlights was the glamorous Night of the Stars Tribute, held at La Jolla's magnificent Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis received the prestigious Gregory Peck Award for Cinematic Excellence, recognizing her remarkable contributions to film and television. Fellow Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino was celebrated with the festival's Virtuoso Award, honoring her distinguished acting career. The festivities continued with the premiere of The Debut, an impressive lineup of independent features, international documentaries, and short films, complemented by engaging filmmaker discussions and exclusive gatherings that brought Hollywood's creative community together with San Diego's arts patrons.

The celebration extended beyond the silver screen with 25 Years After Dark, a festive anniversary gathering at the legendary Belly Up in Solana Beach, featuring music, dancing, and recognition of filmmaking achievement. The festival concluded Sunday with Culinary Cinema, an imaginative marriage of gastronomy and filmmaking featuring gourmet cuisine, wine, and cinematic entertainment. Under the leadership of CEO and President Tonya Mantooth, the San Diego International Film Festival has evolved into a celebrated cultural institution, championing emerging talent while attracting internationally recognized artists. Its silver anniversary was not simply a tribute to 25 remarkable years, but a celebration of San Diego's growing prominence on the international cultural stage.
